State Vaccination Requirements for Staff

Dear Big Lagoon Community

As you may have heard, yesterday Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that California will be the first state to require public and private schools to verify that workers are fully vaccinated or tested regularly. Unvaccinated workers and volunteers will be required be tested weekly for COVID-19 and will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including face coverings. The new state requirement for school employees will take effect Aug. 12. Districts and schools will have until Oct. 15 to come into full compliance.

The order by Dr. Tomás J. Aragón, California’s public health officer, is part of the state’s efforts to protect Californians from the dangerous Delta variant of COVID-19 that are now circulating in our community. Vaccination status can have an impact on if and how long employees are required to quarantine after an exposure to COVID-19, and employees who are not vaccinated may be offered additional personal protective equipment under rules from Cal/OSHA.

We are analyzing the order and will work closely with our associations, County Office of Education and CDE to determine how to address these new requirements. We will share additional information on how this will impact school operations when we know more. In the meantime, please contact Superintendent/Principal Linda Row at [email protected] or 677.3688 if you have any questions or concerns
